Newly engaged Katie and Craig met the old-fashioned way–on the internet! Something unique about these two is that they had 2 first dates. The first was the longest lunch the Bridgewater Shake Shack ever saw, seven years ago!
After four years of not seeing each other, the two reconnected when Katie asked Craig out for coffee. Craig was so enthusiastic, he upgraded the event to dinner. Before this second first date, Katie always said if she and Craig dated again, they would get married. Turns out she was right!
Just like their second date, this engagement was a long time coming–according to Katie and Craig, at least. The two have a very dry sense of humor with each other, so much so that Craig even joked about how long he was taking to propose. On one occasion, Katie described Craig as “loyal, smart, and engaging” to which Craig replied, “I think the issue is that I’m NOT engaging.”
Craig knew he had to make this highly anticipated proposal perfect, so he very carefully placed hints that he would propose to Katie two days before her birthday. He threw her off his trail so much, she was even telling her coworkers how certain she was.
On the day of the real proposal, Craig used brunch for his mother’s birthday as a ruse to get Katie to Liberty State Park for the special moment. Katie was completely shocked when Craig proposed with a beautiful 1950s era ring from Katie’s great-grandmother, passed on to him by her maternal grandmother.
The proposal photos featuring a killer view of Manhattan are unsurprisingly the engaged couple’s most liked Instagram photos. Check out some of our favorite shots from the special day below!
