Madelyn and Shawn met the modern way, on Bumble, followed by a first in-person date in NYC in 2017. Madelyn made the trek up to the city all the way from Montclair to meet Shawn, so she knew that this was going to be worth it and turn into something special. Thankfully, Madelyn says she is the one with the directional skills, so she had no problem making her way to their date.
Madelyn says she knew Shawn was the one when he got her popcorn from the movie theater downstairs in his apartment building instead of microwaving the bag! Sometimes it really is the little things that mean the most.
The two live outside of the city in Montclair now, and enjoy cooking together, making beach trips, hanging out by the fire, and binge-watching TV together.
Shawn even got the scones he used for his proposal to Madelyn at a local bakery, The Corner in Montclair. When he got home with the scones, he asked her to “try this one”, which had a wooden box with the ring. Madelyn even played along and took a bite!
The ring was designed with Madelyn’s specific preferences in mind, but Shawn had his work cut out for him to discreetly get her ring size from a friend.
Madelyn says Shawn is great at keeping close relationships with friends and family, which is why their small wedding at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum was perfect for the two! The elegant yet rustic vibes at The Summit House in Summit, NJ, was the perfect complement to close out their non-traditional celebration – especially with great food and wine, two of the newlywed couple’s favorite things!
