Celebrating 1 Year of Emery – Milestone Session

Many parents are opting for a family session as a way to celebrate baby’s first birthday milestone, especially now in the world of 2020.

Erin & Joel have always been a dream to work with. I worked with them for their engagement session, their wedding, their maternity session, and now baby Emery’s milestone first birthday! Hearing “Whatever you think Jenna, we trust you” is music to my ears!

Since Emery was a winter baby, an outdoor session wasn’t exactly in the cards for us. Fortunately she had an adorable nursery and plenty of spots to explore in the great indoors.

The perfect example of matching, but not looking like you’re wearing a family uniform. They did an amazing job of tying the colors together to make a cohesive look.

What I try to do during these sessions with little ones is quickly go through all the categories. We start off with mom and dad with the baby first, then move on to 1-on-1s with just mom or dad with baby, and then some candids.

We moved from Emery’s nursery over to the living room for a change of scenery, plus Emery was ready to just move.

When the temperature drops, it’s nice to have a controlled indoor environment to work with, especially with these special milestone birthday sessions!

Mom was great at getting the natural expressions out of Emery. There is nothing better than knowing you’ve gotten her real smile.

We braved the chilly outdoors just to grab a couple of shots!

One of the things this young family loves to do together is read books with Emery, so we definitely wanted to capture that.
