There is something so special about reconnecting with families as they grow, and this family session in September at Jockey Hollow in Morristown, NJ was no exception. I first photographed this family when their oldest child was just about a year old, and since then, they’ve welcomed two new additions—adorable twins who are now just under a year old! With their family growing from three to five, it was the perfect time to capture updated portraits and celebrate this exciting new chapter.
Fall is one of my favorite times of year for family photos, and Jockey Hollow provided a beautiful setting for this session. With plenty of open space for the kids to explore, a variety of natural backdrops, and a great mix of sunny and shaded areas, we had so many options to work with. The location allowed us to keep things relaxed and flexible, which is a must when photographing three little ones. We were able to capture a mix of family portraits and more candid moments while letting the kids enjoy being outside.
As a busy working mom, finding time to coordinate family photos with three young children isn’t always easy. Rather than trying to squeeze a session into an already packed schedule, this family made a point to dedicate an afternoon when the kids would be well-rested and in good spirits. Sometimes a little planning makes all the difference! With the holidays approaching, they also wanted photos for their Christmas cards and updated family portraits to display throughout their home.
One of the best parts of family photography is knowing these images will become part of a family’s everyday life. Whether they’re framed on the walls or shared with loved ones during the holidays, these photos will be a reminder of this season when their children were still so little. It was such a joy to see how much this family has grown since our last session, and I hope these images bring them happiness for years to come!
