Bride- and groom-to-be Leila and Thomas have been traveling and eating together since they met in 2018! They have been all over the world, visiting Barcelona, Brussels, Amsterdam, Iceland, Hawaii, Rome, Florence, and Venice. However, their first date was relatively close to home, right in NYC! On this coffee date, Thomas says he made one mistake–agreeing to split the bill! However, he’s been buying her coffees at the same spot ever since, and the rest is history.
Thomas had planned his proposal months in advance with one goal: proposing in the bamboo grove at Rutgers Gardens. The only problem was that the grove was closed on the day of the proposal due to last-minute maintenance! On the spot, Thomas improvised and searched for an alternate spot. He says he “picked a random spot that looked nice,” ending up with an unexpected but beautiful backdrop for this special moment. As it turns out, the closing of the bamboo garden actually helped Thomas surprise Leila! She had a hunch he was going to propose, but the closure of the bamboo gardens got rid of any speculation she had. She had no idea Thomas was winging it (his words!) the whole time!
One thing Thomas didn’t wing was the ring. Thomas and Leila created the ring together, customizing it exactly as Leila wanted. The 3-month process was totally worth giving Leila an amazing ring she was truly excited about.
At the end of the day, Thomas and Leila wouldn’t have changed a thing about their engagement.
Congratulations to Thomas and Leila! Check out some of the favorite photos from the session below!
