Family

Springtime in Somerville set the stage for a heartwarming family session filled with love, laughter, and a furry companion. For this couple, including their beloved corgi in their family photos was an essential part of capturing the family.

The presence of a furry friend can play a vital role in easing any nerves the dog parents may have about being in front of the camera. Luckily for me, this couple came prepared with plenty of treats. It also helps that their furbaby was very well behaved which helped the session run smoothly, allowing for natural and candid moments to be captured.

Preparation is key for sessions including your dog. I recommend coming with your pup’s favorite treats to keep your furry friend engaged and focused. Even for dogs that can get a little distracted, there are tricks to ensure their attention is captured. It’s also helpful to choose a location already familiar to the pet so they are less focused on their new surroundings and more focused during the session.

You can also bring a dog wrangler such as a friend or sibling to help. They are usually the ones who will be waving treats right above my camera to grab the doggie’s attention and looking right where we want them to be. The extra set of hands helps ensure that your furry friend remains engaged and cooperative, giving us those picture-perfect moments.

Above all, I encourage pet parents to do their best to stay relaxed during the session since dogs have an uncanny ability to sense our emotions. No matter what happens, we always seem to walk away from the session with fun shots even if they aren’t the perfectly poses ones we were aiming for. The candid ones we didn’t plan for seem to be the ones that end up as favorites in the end!
